Locomotives

In 2010, for the most part, AC4400’s provide motive power for unit trains of

about 100 cars. Two opposite facing unit pull from the head end while two push

from the tail end. Two are usually also placed in the middle. Other locomotives,

which may be appropriate, are SD-40s and GP-38s. At the moment I am not

particularly knowledgeable with details of the lines operations so I use some

latitude.

By 2010 only the red corporate colours of the Canadian Pacific are to be seen.

However, both the earlier ‘Action Red’ (which looks somewhat orange) and the

more resent ‘Candy Apple Red’ are to be seen. The Candy Apple Red livery is

often seen with the resurrected Canadian Pacific Beaver Logo or the Canadian/

American Flag Logo, symbolizing of the fact that the Canadian Pacific, with the

purchase of American railroads, notably the Soo Line, now extends into the

United States.

In this photo taken at Field an SD-40

in Action red is shown sandwiched

between two AC4400’s in Candy Apple

red, the unit in the foreground

sporting the beaver logo. The

locomotives are sitting in the yard at

Field waiting to assist east-bound

trains up the 2.2% grade to the Spiral

Tunnels and over the Kicking Horse

Pass.
